Alexander Staffa
Server and Bartender
Alexander Staffa started his academic journey at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs, where he earned an Associate of Science degree. He later attended Metropolitan State University of Denver to further his studies. After spending 29 years living in Colorado, Alex decided to relocate to Amesbury, Massachusetts. This move marked a new chapter in his life, where he plans to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
In support of his ongoing education, Alex has applied to several universities across Massachusetts, often referred to as The Bay State. While weighing his options and preparing for the next steps in his academic path, he is living near Boston, Massachusetts. Originally from Louisville, Colorado, he now resides in a coastal area renowned for its vibrant tourism scene and steady influx of visitors. Being surrounded by people from many different regions gives him a sense of connection and helps him stay engaged as he plans his academic future.
Chemistry as a Chosen Field
Alex Staffa chose Chemistry as his major because of his interest in understanding the structure and function of the natural world. He is intrigued by how atoms and molecules combine, react, and influence various elements of life, such as food, medicine, and the environment. His decision to pursue this subject is rooted in a desire to analyze, observe, and solve complex problems.
Alex thrives in lab settings. He enjoys experimenting, collecting data, and using scientific methods to reach conclusions. His focus lies in applying what he learns in the classroom to practical environments. Whether it involves creating new materials, identifying unknown chemicals, or researching alternatives for sustainability, Alex finds value in each stage of the process.
With a mind that balances accuracy and imagination, Alex can picture what cannot be seen and interpret data in ways that lead to helpful solutions. He sees Chemistry as a field full of opportunity, with potential applications in pharmaceuticals, environmental science, forensic studies, and education. A genuine interest in scientific discovery and practical impact drives his academic path.
Skiing from Childhood
Alex was born in Louisville, Colorado, and began skiing at the age of five. Growing up in a state known for its ski culture, he was able to visit resorts such as Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Arapahoe Basin. These early experiences helped him build confidence and comfort on the slopes.
His passion for skiing grew stronger while attending school in Steamboat Springs. Between 2013 and 2016, Alex skied around 100 days per season. Steamboat’s ski area offers nearly 3,000 acres of terrain and 297 named trails, all of which provide him with plenty of opportunities to challenge himself.
Skiing became more than just a recreational activity—it was also a way to reconnect with nature. The quiet landscapes, fresh air, and high-altitude surroundings gave him a sense of peace. At the same time, skiing helped him stay fit and improve his balance and endurance. As he progressed on the slopes, he pushed his limits, gaining confidence and resilience that carried over into other parts of his life.
The experience also had a strong social component. Whether skiing with family or friends, Alex appreciated the shared moments and friendships that formed over time. These memories continue to influence his connection to outdoor activities.
Enjoying the Outdoors
Alex’s love for the outdoors extends far beyond skiing. He also spends time dirt biking, hiking, and tubing. These activities give him the chance to stay active and embrace new challenges. Exploring nature is something that keeps him energized and inspired.
He often visits national parks across the country, each offering new terrain to explore. From forests to rivers to mountain trails, Alex enjoys discovering what each location has to offer. These trips allow him to stay physically active while also enjoying moments of calm and reflection in natural surroundings.
Outdoor activities are an important part of his lifestyle. They offer variety, promote good health, and feed his curiosity about the world around him. Whether he's riding through rugged terrain or floating on a river, Alex values these experiences for both the adventure and the perspective they bring.
Creative Interests and Hobbies
In addition to his academic and outdoor pursuits, Alex also enjoys playing games. He spends his free time engaging with video games and board games, particularly Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). This game, which involves character-building and storytelling, allows him to use imagination and logic in equal measure.
Dungeons & Dragons offers a platform for Alex to explore new ideas, develop creative strategies, and interact with others. The game includes teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving, all of which align with his academic interest in Chemistry. By creating scenarios and thinking through outcomes, he exercises skills that are useful both in and out of the lab.
The social aspect of D&D is also meaningful to him. Whether playing online or face-to-face, the game creates a shared space for collaboration. It’s not just about fantasy or fun—it’s also about thinking critically, adapting quickly, and building lasting connections.
